AU domain administrator issues fresh warning
17 July 2003
auDA has issued another consumer alert about a deceptive mail-out to Australian domain name holders by Domain Names Australia, possibly breaching undertakings given to the Federal Court.
The mail-out warns holders of Australian domain names that the net.au version of their domain name is available or unregistered. auDA (the au domain administrator) is concerned the letter could be easily mistaken for an invoice, and for this reason claims it is deceptive.
Domain Names Australia is a company controlled by Chesley Rafferty, who is also a director of Internet Registry, which has also raised ire with deceptive marketing practices.
